The
Washington Post reports that negotiations between the White House, Republicans, and Democrats
are ramping up to avoid a potential government shutdown on Friday, April
29. The groups are at odds over clashing spending priorities, including
funding for a border wall. Democrats have stated they vigorously oppose
any money for the border wall in a new spending bill, and some Republican
congressional leaders have also voiced skepticism about including wall
funding in the bill. Republicans will need to garner at least some Democratic
support in order to meet the 60 votes necessary to pass a spending bill.
It remains unclear if President Trump would sign a bill without border funding.
