The New York Times: Jeff Flake: We Need Immigrants with Skills. But Working Hard Is a Skill.

This opinion piece by Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) in the New York Times recounts the story of Manuel Chaidez, a farm laborer from Sonora, Mexico, who embodies the work ethic illustrated by countless immigrants to the United States whose only initial credentials are a strong back and an eagerness to use it. Manuel devoted 24 years of his life to Senator Flake's family ranch in Arizona and went on to marry, gain permanent resident status, and raise seven children in the United States. He was picked up and returned to Mexico by the Border Patrol a dozen times. Each time, he made his way back. Read this story and more in AILA's daily immigration news clips.
