U.S. Judge Blocks Portions of Texas Law Targeting Sanctuary Cities

A U.S. Judge on Wednesday, August 30th blocked portions of a Texas law, scheduled to come into effect two days later, that was intended to punish “sanctuary cities” which is often enforcement of immigration law in their jurisdictions. The law has been regarded by many rights groups such as the ACLU and AILA as unconstitutional. Reuters reported that the Judge’s “decision in Texas could have ramifications nationwide as other Republican-controlled states are looking at legislation targeting sanctuary cities, which they say illegally shield immigrations.”
