Newsweek: ICE Agents Are Allegedly Texting Undocumented Immigrants to Trick Them into Deportation Talks

Newsweek reports on two cases of ICE agents allegedly contacting undocumented immigrants via informal text messages to compel them to cooperate with deportation proceedings. The individuals' attorneys both originally suspected the text messages were fraudulent, but said they later verified they had indeed come from ICE agents. When asked whether the text messages are a new ICE strategy, the agency did not answer.
