Nationality & Citizenship in Daytona Beach

Immigration Attorneys Handling Naturalization

Every single year, there are hundreds of thousands of people who were legal residents in the United States that choose to complete the process of naturalization and become U.S. citizens. Although this procedure is extensive, there are a number of benefits involved, including the right to vote, the right to reunite with your family, and the unquestionable right to reside in the U.S. For many immigrants, this provides a sense of comfort and security.

If you are interested in attempting the naturalization process or are curious about how it works, it is highly advisable to have the help of a skilled and dedicated Daytona Beach immigration lawyer on your side. Here at David F. Vedder, P.A., we specialize in immigration law - it's all we do, allowing us to provide you with the strongest legal care possible.

There are a few general requirements which one must meet to become a U.S. citizen, including:

  • Being at least 18 years old
  • Having a Green Card for at least five years (or three years in some cases where the applicant is married to and continuously living with a US citizen spouse)
  • Being proficient in English - reading, writing, and speaking
  • Having knowledge of U.S. government and history
  • Meet good moral character requirements. Potential disqualifications to good moral character include certain criminal convictions (including DUIs), more than 179 days of jail time, falsely claiming U.S. citizenship, voting, certain misrepresentations, prostitution, illegal gambling, adultery, failure to pay child support, human smuggling, being a ‘habitual drunkard’, and some other acts.
  • Physically present in the US for at least six months of each year for the immediate five years (or three years in some cases) preceding application
