Asylum Win Against All Odds

A detained Syrian client recently won asylum at one of the toughest immigration courts in the country in a case fraught with legal issues. Over the government’s objections, the Immigration Judge held the client had not been firmly resettled in a third country—in spite of living there with a residence card. The judge also determined that the client faced a well-found fear of future persecution as a Syrian Christian. Following the decision, the Department of Homeland Security released the client after over four months of detention.

David F. Vedder flew to El Paso, Texas to attend the hearing in person—on a team effort with Attorney Dylan Tessier and Legal Assistant Christy Ackerman.
